Bees are swept by the Cougars…
Great job by my son, John Lamb, during his second start yesterday, 4/13/10, for the Burlington Bees, Class A Affiliate of the Kansas City Royals. Clearly a better day with control, and command, of all three pitches in his arsenal. John allowed only one hit through four and two-thirds innings of work without allowing any runs before getting lifted from the game with two base-runners on in the bottom of the 5th inning. Pitch count surely dictated the decision to remove John Lamb from the game during this early season contest against the Kane County Cougars, Class A Affiliate of the Oakland A’s. The Burlington Bees relief made quick work of getting the third out to secure John’s shutout effort and keep up the 5 run lead.
Game statistics –
Innings – 4.2
Hits – 1
Runs – 0
Earned Runs – 0
Walks – 2
Strike outs (K’s) – 6
HR’s – 0
Season ERA – 1.04
The Bees bullpen could not hold the 5-0 score to secure the team win. Instead the Cougars managed to tie the game in the bottom of the 9th on some timely hitting by Max Stassi. The game was eventually won by the Cougars in the 11th with a forced run crossing the plate on a walk. The Bees first road trip of the year ended with a sweep by the host Kane County Cougars, west of Chicago, IL.
Still plenty of baseball left to play during the 2010 Midwest League season. I am confident that the Burlington Bees will turn things around soon. There is simply too much talent on the roster to continue losing games at this current pace.
Burlington returns home for a short series starting today against the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers, Class A Affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers.
Good luck Bees!
