Only three years ago Lamb was…
Just three years ago John Lamb was spending his second summer away from home playing in the Midland Redskins baseball organization, for the age proper level Braves. Their team was preparing for another trip to the Mickey Mantle World Series in McKinney, TX by means of the regional tournament in Amelia, OH. Just a little extra knowledge about the Midland program…current Blue Rocks teammate, Eric Hosmer, also played with the same organization. Visit their site link below, through their logo, for a thorough list of past performers. It is a big list of pretty good players!
John was staying with the Rexroat family, which was serving as one of the team’s host families for the young men playing from out of the immediate area with the organization. The Midland Braves went on to win the regional event and also win the World Series for the first time in the organization’s history and yes, they got a ring.
Immediately after the event, Lamb returned home to take part in the 2007 Area Code games with the Washington Nationals team. The Area Code event, as some might know, is a huge event for the following year graduates to display their talents in front of a host of professional scouts and college coaches from all over the country. Sure, John was being pursued by many fine schools from all over the country…but anyone that really knew my son was fully aware of his goals and dreams.
The whole basis for a little reflection about my son is to simply put his current baseball career into perspective. I know he is having a fantastic second season in professional baseball now, but it was just three years ago that he was playing in a 16 year-old division of amateur baseball for a championship.
Take a deep breath and simply reflect back on the big picture of this baseball prospect’s career. More reflection and pictures will follow the next few days as we wait for Lamb’s next start on the road-trip for the Wilmington Blue Rocks, in the Carolina League.
GO BLUE ROCKS…sweep them Keys away!
