Bits from the past…
Orange County, CA – On the eve of the 20th start for John Lamb and his Wilmington Blue Rocks teammates against the Myrtle Beach Pelicans, I decided to throw out some bits of the past.
This coming Christmas will mark three years from the time that John spent the holidays away from home during a trip to Australia in 2007. No, not to simply chase kangaroos or experience the New Year’s celebration in Sydney but to play baseball with the Goodwill Series in an International environment. He went by himself and made plenty of friends during the trip while he played baseball away from home. John had exposure to many scouts during the trip that I’m sure had opinions of his potential to play professional baseball.
We did receive a pleasant surprise with a call home on Christmas day, at which time he assured us that all was going well during the trip. Of course, at that time John was still playing a somewhere else on the field when he wasn’t on the mound throwing strikes. I have included a couple of pictures from the games during his trip to prove he knows which end of the bat to hold at the plate.
Not looking forward to another restless night of sleep, since it seems to be a bit of a routine the night before his starts. I experienced similar circumstances last year, but not noticed as much due in part to my full-time graveyard gas hauling schedule. The sleepless nights have escalated since my injury has me on a more “normal” schedule for now.
The Wilmington Blue Rocks lost tonight’s game in the bottom of the 9th inning to even up the series by a final score of 5-4. The Rocks are not only one game over .500 for the season but also in first place.
GO BLUE ROCKS!
