Naturals go “Pink” and win

August 7, 2010

Springdale, AR – Last night the Northwest Arkansas Naturals had the 2nd annual “Pink in the Park Night” at Arvest Ballpark, benefiting Komen for the Cure. The players wore a special pink jersey, which were sold through an auction and all proceeds were ear marked to help breast cancer research. The Friday night Texas League event was presented by Farm Rich®.

The Naturals won with good pitching, timely hitting and of course the “pink” jerseys! Teaford (10-3, 4.19) and Johnson (2-4, 5.69), with his first save of the season, provided the pitching with Robinson and Romak both having multiple hits during the special evening contest against the Arkansas Travelers. Giavotella had three walks, Van Stratten and Pina both had single hit performances before taking their jerseys off and handing them over to the winning bidders of the auction.

Didn’t see any photos of John Lamb sneaking around the ballpark with his pink jersey on, waiting for his next start on Sunday evening, but I know he looks pretty good in any “spring” color, especially when worn for a great cause.

It wasn’t very long ago, that my son continued to play on the field as a position player when he wasn’t pitching, due in part to his ability to hit the ball. He may have even dreamed of playing the field someday in professional baseball, but we know how that has evolved most recently. In reality, my son simply wanted the chance to play and we remain forever thankful to the Kansas City Royals for that opportunity.

However, I wanted to share, that a few years back, John gave my wife a “pink” Rawlings bat with a nice personal message to her that she holds very close to her heart. The bat not only benefited a great cause to support breast cancer, but continues to remind Colleen, just how important she was with helping to raise my boy.

The Naturals “Pink in the Park Night” is another prime example of the great things that baseball can offer off the field during the course of a long season.

Thanks for the mention of the very dear PINK BAT. It is all so true that it is a very special memory for me.
It is just one of many THANKS John has given me during his years of growing up and baseball.
John has been very good about letting me know what I mean to him thru birthday and mothers day cards, baseballs, jerseys of course my PINK BAT and LOVE.
He always signs it “Thanks for always being there for me.” That always brings a tear to my eye.
He even takes the time to stop by my work to say good bye to me, give me a tight hug and a kiss before heading out to his next season. That alone means the world to me.
It’s been a ride filled with true excitement.
Thank you the ROYALS for making my sons dreams come true.
