Royals anoint Lamb with Splittorff POY award

September 2, 2010

Laguna Hills, CA – Wednesday afternoon the Kansas City Royals announced via press release that John Lamb has been awarded the Paul Splittorff “Pitcher of the Year” honors. Andy Shaw, with the Gersch Agency, called me with the news about John and to hear me practically run off the road with excitement for my son. John has had a good year at three different levels for the organization and it is extremely humbling for us to acknowledge this new award from the Kansas City Royals.

Last year, following his assignments with two separate teams, Lamb received the Idaho Falls Chukars “Pitcher of the Year” honor and received his place in the Royals Hall of Fame exhibit along with some other familiar names in the Kansas City farm system, including great names from the Royals franchise history. A great way to end his first season of play and now another great way to eclipse his second year of wearing the Royals affiliate uniforms.

Although statistics and awards are nice, I know that my son has simple things on his mind now. Preparing for his next start in the Texas League is foremost in his thoughts and helping the Northwest Arkansas Naturals win a championship is surely running a close second. Personal success is always nice, but team awards are better!

Final regular season Naturals games!

The Royals are surrounded with exceptional talent throughout their system and we are overwhelmed with tremendous satisfaction that they have honored John Lamb with yet another award during his young professional baseball career.

I am guessing this was the 2nd call that you couldn’t talk about until after the press release… Well Deserved… Is there talk of him pitching in the AFL this year??? I know the Royals have 1 slot still open for the AFL Squad…

    Chris,

That 2nd call really had nothing to do with the Royals award…some other things that have been working off the field for John, which will be announced in due time. Sorry for the vow of being secret about details, but it is out of professional respect to those involved.

No news on the AFL chance this year, but it would be nice for him to get more work towards the goal!

I have always said , ” JL you the “man”. This just proves it! Drake will be so happy to tell all his friends at school.

You know, another great pitcher pasted through Burlington, Iowa not long ago and his name was Mark Buehrle, who also is a left handed pitcher! Difference is, John Lamb remembers his fans. Mark Buehrle has forgot, and has forgotten his host family from Burlington, Iowa. Hats off to the KC Royals!

    Jay,

Thanks again for the visit…glad to hear that John remains grounded during this path. I can only hope he continues his contact with the special people he has met along the journey!

Thanks for everything and please say “hi” to the rest of the Day family!
