Futures Night at Kauffman

October 1, 2010

Kansas City, MO – The Futures Night at Kauffman Stadium tonight before the Tampa Bay Rays game prompted our recent trip to Kansas City. John Lamb will receive the Paul Splittorff “Pitcher of the Year” award before the Rays and Royals game along with other players being recognized for their minor league performances. This will mark the second straight year for John to receive an award from the Kansas City Royals for his play in the farm system. We have been promised a more colorful look wearing his suit this year compared to the all black look in 2009.

The Royals have been great to organize this acknowledgement for some of the individual efforts within their organization. All the players receiving awards will have a place in the Royals Hall of Fame building until next year. Go visit the building out beyond the left field fence and see just how exciting the Royals future could be.

Our typical day of travel began with some TSA harassment in Orange County. This time my wife, Colleen, fell victim to the extra search over an unopened container that must have landed on the high priority list of threats to safe air travel.

By the way, don’t try to carry on a snow globe into John Wayne airport…you might shut down the place. For the record, Colleen was not trying to take a snow globe to Missouri. Pack it in your checked bag so those very special handling habits of the airline employees will insure the safe delivery of that snow globe. The changes to air travel continue to amaze me every time I need to fly.

The grind of professional baseball can be difficult for some family and friends to fully appreciate. The Lamb household has a solid grip on this process and remain steadfast with our gratitude to the Kansas City Royals organization. All Royals have plenty of reasons to remain optimistic about the club’s future and some of those reasons will be honored Friday evening at Kauffman Stadium.

I hope you had a good time at the K. I’m glad the Royals have a great future coming up. I’m excited to see where BA has John in the Carolina League Top 20 today when it is released. Thanks for sharing!

We had a great time at the K and we were all very happy to see the CL list that came out yesterday. Hope to see you around the ballpark someday soon!

John, I hope you enjoyed your time in KC this past weekend. You both saw a rarity this past year. Back to Back wins. You had great weather too. I wish I was able to get out there this past weekend, but because of kid commitments I wasn’t able to make it. Look forward to hearing about John’s off season plans and goals for next year.

I know the Lamb family enjoyed the trip and the Royal treatment during our stay…I saw plenty of smiles on John’s face during our brief visit. Sorry you could not make the trip and get a glimpse at some of the Royals minor league notables at Kauffman.
